Unexpected and Fun 2025 Trends in Furniture: Living Room Furniture

If you plan to refresh your space, these 2025 trends in living room furniture are exactly what you need to know. This year, design is all about comfort, character, and intentionality, which means there’s so much room for personalization and creativity! I love direction modern design is taking, it feels like we are escaping millennial grey and boring beige and returning to a time of interesting finds, patterns, color, texture, and personality! From sculptural silhouettes to handmade touches, here’s what I, an interior decorator, see defining living room furniture and decor style in 2025.

Curved Silhouettes Take Center Stage

Sharp lines and rigid structure are taking a backseat. In 2025, furniture with soft curves—especially in the living room—is having a major moment. Crescent-shaped sofas, arched bookshelves, and scalloped-edge tables bring an organic flow to a space. These shapes feel both vintage and modern, adding comfort and an artful quality to everyday pieces.

Curved furniture has long been a part of design styles like mid century modern in a very specific way, but we are now seeing it in the more earthy, desaturated and bold modern vintage trend.

Pattern Drenching Is the New Maximalism

Pattern drenching—layering multiple prints like florals, stripes, and block patterns across upholstery, curtains, throw pillows, and rugs—is in full swing. It’s eclectic, curated, and makes a space feel richly and deliciously lived-in.

This post is about living room furniture trends, but I had to include this gorgeous bathroom example of pattern drenching!

I am crazy about this ecclectic, timeless, and versatile look. I love changing out out patterns and decor often and this style allows me to mix and imperfectly match all my favorite decor pieces and textiles.

I tend to buy pillows and throws in similar color stories and complementary styles so I can easily rotate them around the house. It’s one of my favorite free-decor tricks—just moving things from one room to another can refresh a space without adding more clutter or spending more money.

Creating a cozy, layered feel is all about mixing textures and patterns. Pair a velvet sofa with a chunky knit throw or layer a jute rug under a patterned one. Mix your favorite spring florals pillows with a striped throw. The result is collected, inviting room that reflects your unique style.

Modular & Multi-Functional Furniture

Adaptable pieces are still key in 2025, but now they’re also sculptural and stylish. Modular sectionals, nesting tables, and storage ottomans are not only practical but also bring in bold, modern forms that feel like functional art.

They’re also a lifesaver for families. As a stepmom to three kids, I don’t love visual clutter, but we have plenty of stuffed animals and blankets! We use a giant storage ottoman instead of a coffee table, and it’s a game-changer.

Ours is simple and matches our couch, but there are cute velvet and fluted options if you are looking for a little storage and style. The one below is from West Elm, but I also found this cute green velvet courderoy ottoman for a little lower price point.

Artisanal Over Mass-Market

This is the year to skip the big-box art prints. Bespoke furniture and handmade decor—think scalloped edges, carved wood, handwoven textiles—are what make a living room feel truly yours. Etsy, local makers, and even thrift stores are great places to find one-of-a-kind pieces with soul.

And no, it doesn’t have to be expensive. You can absolutely find affordable, unique pieces at thrift stores, garage sales, flea markets, and art fairs.

Want truly original wall art? Make your own! Here’s how I create intuitive abstract paintings inspired by nature using a thrifted wall art piece.

This trend is part of a larger movement toward “slow decorating”—taking your time to furnish your space with meaningful, lasting items instead of rushing to fill a room with cookie-cutter pieces. It supports sustainability, showcases your personality, and helps support local artists and small businesses.

Dark Wood Is Back (Finally!)

While light oak has dominated the past few years, 2025 is bringing dark woods—walnut, rosewood, mahogany—back into the spotlight. These richer tones add depth, drama, and a grounded warmth to your living room

Not ready to go full moody vintage? That’s okay. Try mixing dark wood furniture with white walls and lighter wood accents for a more balanced, organic-modern feel. I love white walls in our old home because our living room doesn’t have overhead lighting and we already have dark hardwood floors that do a lot of heavy lifting for the room interms of charm and character. I love mixing in light and dark woodtones and deep-toned decor for contrast and character—plus, lots of plants for that earthy, organic look.

Ther are ways to incorporate each of these trends in ways that make sense for home and your style.

Cottagecore Hues & Jewel Tones Meet Neutrals

Thankfully, we’ve moved far away from the all-gray-everything trend of the 2010s. 2025 is embracing both soft, cottagy colors like robin’s egg blue, sage green, and peachy pinks—and rich jewel tones like emerald, sapphire, navy, and brown. These shades pop beautifully against neutral backgrounds and add mood and coziness to a room.

Brown is also having a big moment. It’s warmer and more versatile than gray or beige, and I think it’ll stand the test of time. Used in layered, eclectic ways—with texture, pattern, and color—it can feel soulful and earthy, not dull or dated.

We’re currently knee-deep in a bathroom and kitchen renovation, and I’m even considering painting the bathroom brown instead of white (which was the original plan).

I love color-drenched rooms, but not sure yet if that will work in a small bathroom.

I am nervous to go too dark since it is smaller room (and our main floor bathroom).

Maybe I’ll try out his trend with a soft petal pinky brown.

Here is my design board so far, more on that to come!

Not ready for full color commitment? Add boldness with a single chair, accent wall, or patterned pillows in these hues.

It’s All About Texture (and a Touch of Whimsy)

In 2025, the cozy factor is high. Mixing textures—velvet, cotton, chunky knits—adds warmth and richness. Scalloped details (on blankets, rugs, frames, shelves) are popping up everywhere and bring a sweet, subtle whimsy.

Even if you’re not investing in new furniture, layering texture is an easy way to update your space. Thrifted finds, heirloom items, and sentimental pieces—like a framed recipe from your grandmother or your child’s artwork—can create dimension and warmth. The goal is a room that tells your story.

In 2025, the devil (and the delight) is in the details. Try incorporating scalloped edges, ball legs, ornate trim, eclectic art, varying patterns, etc. Aim for visual interest and unique details!

For me, that looks like a mix of plants and thrifted treasures—like these gorgeous brass swans I just scored. The moment I spotted them on the shelf, I didn’t hesitate—they went straight into my cart! I actually keep a “thrift list” in my phone, which is basically a running list of things I want, but only want to buy secondhand. Believe it or not, “brass swans” have been on that list for almost a year!

Say Something Unique with your Furniture: Living Room Furniture

Not every trend listed here are strictly furniture, but they all contribute to the feeling of your home. Living rooms in 2025 are cozy, personal, maybe a little moody—and totally, unapologetically you.

Whether you’re investing in a sculptural chair or mixing five patterns into one rug, now’s the time to lean into what you love. Because the best trend of 2025? A home that feels like you.

The frame of our newish couch broke, but thanks to The frame of our newish couch broke, but thanks to a service warranty, we got it checked out. Turns out, a knot in the wood caused a main support bar to crack in three directions—bad enough that the repair guy wanted to haul the whole couch to the shop for a few days. That sounded awful, so I asked if he could get it started and show me how to finish the job.

He was awesome, walked me through the first part, and left me with wood glue and torque screws. A few hours later, the couch was back in business.

A few years ago, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to tackle something like this, but learning to DIY has changed that. It may seem like a small thing to some, but I love the confidence that building and repairing things in my own home has brought me. DIY is about learning, problem-solving, getting creative, and most importantly—trying.

What did Michael Jordan say? “You miss 100% of the couches you don’t fix?” Oh wait, that might have been Michael Scott. Either way, I’m glad I went for it.

Our Christmas was majorly interrupted by the flu t Our Christmas was majorly interrupted by the flu this year. We had to cancel all of our plans, including our annual Christmas Eve party, which was a major letdown. I was down for the count for a few weeks, so the holiday decor stuck around a little longer than usual… like, into the second week of January.

Then CapCut decided to dip for a minute, and this reel got stuck in limbo. But it’s back, I am mostly recovered, and our regular decor is back in place.

As much as I love Christmas decor, it feels good to have a clean, minimal living room again. All of my plants are back in place, we hung up some new artwork, and added wireless sconces above our mantle that pull everything together and brighten up the room.

Making lemon ginger turmeric shots today as our fa Making lemon ginger turmeric shots today as our family is fighting our first major cold of the season. They are my go-to immune-boosting, antioxidant-packed drink that gets me through winter when our kids seem to bring home every possible variation of cold and flu. (A few weeks ago, it was scarlet fever—scarlet fever! What is this, the 1700s?)

These immunity shots combine:

Lemon for a hefty dose of vitamin C
Ginger, a powerful anti-inflammatory
Turmeric, another anti-inflammatory
A touch of maple syrup for sweetness
A crack of black pepper to activate curcumin, turmeric’s potent antioxidant
Stay ahead of the winter colds and read the blog for the full recipe!

It's hard to pick my favorite Christmas DIY this y It's hard to pick my favorite Christmas DIY this year, but these flocked ornaments are definitely near the top of the list. What is flocking? Flocking is similar to velvet in appearance and texture, but unlike velvet, which is a woven fabric, flocking is made from small, short fibers called "flock" which are adhered to a surface with an adhesive.

The full tutorial on my blog breaks down how to make them using simple materials most people already have at home—acrylic paint and baking soda.
